Features

Within a few seconds of a visitor requesting your website, it should be obvious as to who you are and what you can do for them. Animations, fancy graphics, innovative navigation and music background may make a site look pretty, but if they are not informing your customer of your product or services, they are just unnecessary distractions that increase load time.
Remember, your web site is there to provide your visitors with valuable information and to capture their information so that you can have them in your database. Anything else is redundant. keep it simple. Some sample sites.

A restaurant menu represents more than the food a restaurant serves. It evokes the atmosphere and theme of the setting. A playful menu suggests a more relaxed dining experience, and a very elegant menu indicates a more reserved meal. Combine your design elements and the meals you offer to create a menu that conveys your restaurant's personality. If you're not comfortable creating your own restaurant menu, have us design it for you, but make sure that you, or someone in your organization knows how to and is able to update your site. You can then take advantage of all the the existing features and be in a position to make additions and changes and stay up to date with new features.

How am I doing? The best way to find out what is working and what is not working for your business and for your website is to ask your users. Have an area where your users can freely tell you their thoughts and ideas. make the area highly visible, making it obvious you are genuinely interested in honest feedback. Use a form that is simple to fill out and readily available. This is also an excellent opportunity to collect the email address and add the customer to your marketing database.

If you use coupons in your ads, rather than including an image of it in your printed advertisement, make the coupons available on a page in your website and advertise the link to these coupons. This gives your customer the opportunity to visit your website and see the other valuable offerings you have. Make the coupon down-loadable rather than just print screen, you can then collect the customers email address for your marketing. If you offer online ordering, give the customer the opportunity to redeem the coupon right away.

Email marketing is one of the most effective communication and promotion vehicles in the Internet. 90% of Internet users and 56% of all Americans use email on a regular basis (source: e-marketeer Aug. 2006). Restaurants can benefit from email marketing because it’s fast, direct, cost-effective, and builds loyal relationships with your clients. You may not be ready to use this inexpensive marketing plan right away, but your website should have in place the tools to collect the information, and you can start building a database with email address.

To really express who you are and what you do, include a gallery of images and/or movies depicting you and your services. The focus should be on what you are trying to sell. If you want to emphasize your dining in, show pictures of your restaurant, if it is your food, concentrate on those beautiful dishes. Use smaller pictures on the page with links to larger images.

You can have a slide show on the home page, but don't overload it with more than 10 slides as these files will load even though the visitor will most likely leave the page well before viewing them all, better, to change the images often. This can be done through software.

You should be able to sign into a control panel and have complete access to your website. Make sure you have the ability to keep the site up to date and fresh with any new happenings or offerings and to keep your menu or list of services current to reflect the latest prices and promotions. Too many restaurants have their website reflecting out of date information and prices while their printed material is current because it is either too difficult to change or they need the web designer to do it.

Give your customer the option to buy your product immediately if possible

Statistics show the average order is increased from 12 to 28% and profits by as much as 35% or more.

Visitors may come looking for information or to browse your menu, but once they realize they can order right there, just the way they want it- With only a few more clicks of the mouse, you have a sale

Here are some of the many other benefits of providing online ordering.

  • Frees up staff from the phone to attend to your in-house patrons.
  • Eliminate busy signals or long hold times often incurred with call in orders resulting in customer dissatisfaction and sometimes lost sales.
  • Your menu is viewed in detail while customers leisurely take their time to make their selections and choose from a variety of menu options and additional accompaniments.
  • Order accuracy is increased.
  • You gather marketing data that enables you  to send targeted advertising messages to online customers -- creating greater customer loyalty and repeat business.

There are many companies that offer online ordering services and will set up your menu on their website for free and will only charge the restaurant if they send you an order. They charge a commission for their services. Although the fees are generally pretty high, usually ranging from $1 to $8, it may be justified as they drive additional business to your store that you would not have otherwise. I do not recommend however providing a link to their ordering engine on your website  and paying that commission for a sale you already have,. Also once your customer signs up to an online ordering website, they can use their account on all the other sites using the service, that’s usually your competition

The most important element in a successful online ordering system is the online ordering engine. Just as having the convenience of a reliable ordering system in place enhances customer satisfaction, having a system in place that isn't reliable will do much damage to your customer perception. The only thing worse than a customer browsing your menu, placing an order, and not be able to complete it, is having completed it and arriving at the store only to find the store has not received it. The most important aspects of an online ordering system are reliability, followed by ease of use, and updatability. The system should be flexible enough to accommodate your business requirements as well,  such as delivery charges, sales tax , gratuities, charge cards, coupons etc..

Fees for orders vary, some ordering engines charge commission on each order as well. Our online ordering engine PBSMenu (PBSMenu.com) is integrated into the software, letting the customer order directly from your menu. Fees are based on the type of transaction and range from $0.00 for email, $.25 for CPU-CPU and $.50 per phone/fax transaction.

Listed below are some of the features of the PBSMenu ordering engine

PBSMenu
Reliable Stable Available

Unlike shopping cart solutions and disparate online ordering providers, PBSMenu is integrated into an attractive menu, when a visitor clicks the menu item they are provided with more information about it, as well as available options to prepare it and an option to add it to their order. The customer will only be asked for a name, an email address and a phone number when they complete and place the order. An account need not be setup unless the customer is paying by credit card
